We have all seen Gartner’s latest figures on vendor software auditing.

But isn’t it a misperception to focus too much on the compliance capabilities of Software Asset Management over its ability to streamline procurement of software?  This hurts organizations  because compliance often is not a compelling enough reason to get management excited to invest in SAM.

An organization should manage the full width of their software spend, rather than just focusing on point projects to address the audit risk issue. Cost avoidance and cost savings should be viewed with much more weight as they have a real effect of the business concerned from a P&L standpoint.
